TNT express

TNT Express is one of the world’s largest express delivery companies. On a daily basis, it delivers close to one million consignments, ranging from documents and parcels to palletized freight, to business and consumers around the world. The company operates road and air transportation networks in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Americas. TNT Express is committed to minimize any potential negative impact of its activities on the environment. In 2012, its Global Optimisation (GO) Programme received the Franz Edelman Award for its efforts in optimizing delivery operations through site location planning, optimal truck routing, fleet management and staff scheduling.

TNT Express Italy, the Italian Business Unit, is one of the main players in the industry, with over 180,000 consignments delivered every day. A major asset is nationwide capillarity, guaranteed by a network of 100 depots and hubs linked by 600 trucks (the fleet amounts to 2,750 vehicles) and 4 aircrafts. The company is leader in devising green solutions within last-mile logistics; in 2012, TNT Express Italy received the “Lean and Green Award” for its commitment to cut by 20% the CO2 emissions generated by its operations. This is pursued through a broad range of actions including smart cities initiatives, network optimisation, energy efficiency programmes, carbon management, “zero-emission” supply chain solutions for customers, and awareness and training internal programmes.

Within Pro-e-Bike project, TNT Express Italy operated with one electric scooter in Genoa, a big city of Northern Italy, for last-mile delivery in substitution of an ICE vehicle. The e-scooter performances were of high quality, similar to the ones of the traditional scooter. Furthermore the e-scooter was perfect for promoting and giving visibility to the company.

Eco Bike Courier

Founded in 2011 by two young bike messengers, Eco Bike Courier is the first ecologic delivery service in the city of Genova. The mission of the company is the promotion of sustainable mobility through the use of pedelecs for the delivering of small parcels, letters, food, etc.

The company used normal e-bike with traditional frame but, between 2013 and 2014 thanks to Pro-e-bike project, they added to their ecologic fleet an e-cargobike. It allowed the delivering of bulky parcels, enlarging the number of potential users and avoiding the use of traditional van for their delivery. The e-cargobike was perfect for promoting and giving visibility to the company and Eco Bike Courier keeps on using the e-cargobike after the end of the pilot. The goal of market enlargement has been completely achieved, so much that the company bought an e-van for addressing the requests arriving from outside the city of Genoa.
